Two knives and a “fat wad of cash” have been taken off the streets after police swarmed a Mercedes in Croydon late on Thursday night.
In a dramatic scene outside Maeme’s Piri Piri on Frith Road, a marked police car pulled up alongside a grey hatchback just before midnight on April 24. Witnesses reported the driver allegedly tried to flee before officers quickly placed three men in handcuffs.
Harrison Galliven, a reporter for MyLondon who witnessed the incident firsthand, said: “Two knives confiscated and a fat wad of cash. Driver tried to run, I think three were arrested. Loads of police on the scene. No drivers license.”
Heavy Police Presence in Croydon
Photos from the scene show officers wearing blue plastic gloves as they carried out a thorough search of the vehicle. One image captures a suspect, handcuffed, standing nearby as police comb through the car. Another shows a man in a puffer jacket being led into the back of a police van.
It wasn’t just uniformed officers on the ground either. Several plainclothes officers were seen assisting in the operation, adding to the already strong police presence.
Investigation Ongoing
The Metropolitan Police have been approached for comment regarding the arrests and the items seized during the stop. At this stage, details about potential charges or further investigations have yet to be confirmed.
The swift action by Croydon police has removed dangerous weapons and a significant amount of cash from the streets, helping to make the area safer. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
