Counter Terrorism Policing North East is examining Facebook posts as part of its investigation into a shocking crossbow and firearm incident that unfolded in Leeds over the weekend.
The violent attack, which brought a busy Leeds street to a halt on Saturday evening, has left the local community shaken. Police have confirmed that the suspect, a 38-year-old man, remains in hospital in a critical condition. He was arrested after sustaining self-inflicted injuries at the scene.
Two Women Injured in Disturbing Attack
The incident also left two women, aged 19 and 31, injured. One of the victims suffered life-threatening wounds and required urgent surgery. Authorities have now confirmed she is in stable condition and recovering in the hospital. The second woman, who sustained less severe injuries, has since been discharged.
Emergency services had rushed to the area after reports of a disturbance involving a crossbow and a firearm. The street, usually bustling with activity, was cordoned off for several hours as armed police secured the scene and investigators began their work.
Facebook Posts Under Scrutiny
As part of the ongoing inquiry, counter terrorism officers are now analysing social media activity, particularly posts on Facebook, which may shed light on the suspect’s actions and motives.
Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said: “The investigation continues and officers are working at pace to establish the full facts and circumstances of Saturday’s incident.”
The nature of the Facebook posts being reviewed has not yet been disclosed. However, investigators believe they could hold vital clues in understanding the lead-up to the attack.
Locals expressed their horror at the incident, with many still coming to terms with the violence that erupted in an area normally associated with leisure and nightlife. Businesses reopened cautiously on Sunday, with a heavier police presence reassuring visitors and residents.
The investigation remains active, with counter terrorism officers exploring all potential leads. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward. As Leeds recovers from the shock, the focus now turns to supporting the victims and ensuring justice is served.
