A man has been charged in connection with a series of incidents involving a carjacking and two robberies, which Gardaí believe are linked. Officers responded to three alarming incidents across Dublin and Wicklow on 26 April.
The first incident unfolded at around 7.45pm on St. Peter’s Road, Walkinstown, Dublin. A man approached a woman, in her 30s, who was sitting in a black Nissan Qashqai. He threatened her, forcing her to abandon the vehicle, before fleeing in it.
Roughly 30 minutes later, Gardaí were alerted to a robbery at a shop on the Dublin Road in Bray. A man stormed into the store, “brandishing an implement” and intimidating staff.
“A quantity of alcohol was taken,” confirmed Gardaí. At approximately 8.45pm, a second robbery occurred at another shop, this time in Rathnew, County Wicklow.
“A male entered the store and threatened staff with an implement, a sum of cash was taken,” Gardaí stated. Authorities quickly linked the robberies to the stolen Nissan Qashqai used earlier in the evening.
On 27 April, Gardaí arrested a man in his 40s. He has since been formally charged in connection with the incidents. Investigators are urging the public to assist their inquiries.
“Any person who was travelling on the St. Peter’s Road area of Walkinstown, Dublin 12, on Saturday 26th April 2024 between 7.30pm and 8pm is asked to contact investigating Gardaí,” they said.
“Additionally, road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí,” they added.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Tallaght Garda Station at 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
The swift action by Gardaí highlights their commitment to public safety. As investigations continue, they are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage that could support their case.
