A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed without notice after a disciplinary panel concluded he assaulted and made serious threats against a woman he was personally acquainted with. The case, involving PC Giovanni Mascia, has brought further scrutiny to the conduct of officers within the force.
Met Police Officer Sacked Following Assault and Threat Allegations
The Met Police officer sacked was based in the East Area Command Unit. He faced a misconduct hearing concerning a series of disturbing incidents that occurred between August and November 2022 while he was off duty.
According to the panel’s findings, PC Mascia assaulted the woman on two separate occasions—once in October and again in November 2022. Additionally, he issued a chilling threat to kill her in October of the same year.
Further investigation revealed that, on an unspecified date, Mascia also threatened to destroy the woman’s property if she refused to engage with him.
Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell, from the East Area Command Unit, expressed strong condemnation, stating: “PC Mascia’s behaviour was disgraceful, and fell far below the standards expected of Metropolitan Police officers. The panel found that it amounted to gross misconduct, and he has been immediately dismissed.”
As a result of the misconduct ruling, PC Mascia has been added to the College of Policing’s barred list, effectively prohibiting him from future employment within police forces, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
