Irish singer-songwriter Nell Mescal has confirmed she will be supporting Robbie Williams at the Come Together Festival in Newcastle this June, marking another major milestone in her fast-rising career.
The 21-year-old artist, originally from Maynooth, Co. Kildare, shared her excitement about the upcoming show, calling the opportunity “beyond exciting” as she unveiled details of her packed summer schedule.
“I’m beyond excited for what’s to come,” said Mescal, who is the younger sister of Gladiator II actor Paul Mescal. “I have lots of new music that I’m currently working on, which will be out soon, and I’ll be playing festivals this summer and working on a run of headline shows for you all later in the year.”
This week also saw the release of Mescal’s latest track, a demo titled Thin. The song delves into issues surrounding self-image and emotional vulnerability—topics the young singer tackles with raw honesty.
“Thin is about body image and equating what you look like to what your worth is when it comes to love,” she said. “It was a really difficult song to write and to confront and comes from all my darkest and most untrue thoughts about myself.”
“The ultimate message of the song and what I hope people get from listening to it is that these thoughts aren’t true, but that doesn’t make the emotions any less real and that you are enough as you are.”
Thin marks Mescal’s first release since her critically praised debut EP, Can I Miss It For A Minute?, which dropped in May 2024.
Mescal has been on a steady upward trajectory. Last month, she played a run of sold-out headline shows in New York. She also joined Dermot Kennedy on stage at Boston’s Misneach Festival, and treated fans to a series of intimate acoustic performances.
Her calendar for the summer is brimming with festival appearances, both solo and with her band. Alongside her upcoming performance with Robbie Williams on 4 June, she’s set to feature at several other major events.
Known for her powerful vocals and emotionally resonant songwriting, Mescal has already played some of the UK and Ireland’s biggest festivals, including:
- Latitude
- All Points East
- Electric Picnic
She’s also supported an impressive roster of acts such as HAIM, Florence & The Machine, Dermot Kennedy, and The Last Dinner Party—a sign of the industry’s growing confidence in her talent.
As Nell Mescal gears up for a whirlwind summer, her support slot with Robbie Williams stands as yet another landmark moment in what’s shaping up to be a breakout year.
With new music on the way and a growing list of high-profile gigs under her belt, Mescal is cementing her place as one of Ireland’s most exciting emerging artists.
