Manchester, UK – Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf was urgently called away from Old Trafford after his young son sustained a serious head injury at home. The incident unfolded during United’s thrilling 5-4 victory over Lyon, prompting the Swede to leave midway through the match.
A Sudden Exit Amid Matchday Chaos
Lindelöf, who started the game on the bench, departed at half-time under distressing circumstances. Teammate Noussair Mazraoui also exited the stadium due to a separate personal matter, adding to the unexpected off-field drama during the match.
Manager Ruben Amorim later confirmed: “Both [issues arose] during the game, and sometimes you don’t control these things. But everything is OK now.”
Despite the tension, United managed to secure a dramatic win in front of a stunned home crowd.
The horrifying details were later shared by Lindelöf’s wife, Maja, who described the traumatic incident involving their three-year-old son. Posting on social media, she revealed the boy had fallen into a glass staircase while playing.
“He had been chasing his big brother at home,” she said. “He had to have plastic surgery to put his forehead back together. He was put under anaesthetic.”
Describing the aftermath, Maja added: “It is the first time I have experienced something like this happening with one of my children. It was incredibly unpleasant, and not something I want to experience again.”
Thankfully, her update brought relief to concerned fans: “He is a viking, and back to normal. Everyone was so worried, but he continued his life as if nothing had happened. The doctors say he will have a big scar on his forehead. But never mind — I’m just happy that it went so well.”
Lindelöf’s Future in Doubt
The 29-year-old centre-back, who arrived at Manchester United from Benfica in 2017, recently captained a heavily rotated squad during the 1-0 loss to Wolves. With 277 appearances now under his belt, speculation around his future continues to swirl.
His current contract is set to expire this summer, and sources suggest a departure is likely as the club looks to restructure its backline.
Victor Lindelöf’s sudden departure from Old Trafford highlights how life off the pitch can be just as unpredictable as the action on it. While the footballing world continues to speculate about his future at Manchester United, for now, the Swedish international will no doubt be focused on what matters most — his family’s wellbeing.
